About the management of Redirects from gender

[edit]

Hi everybody, We are gathering right now in the context of the event Gender Redirect organized by Just for the Record.

“This is a redirect from a word or phrase that specifies gender to one that is either gender-neutral or specific to the opposite gender.”

This deserves some further scrutiny. How to choose that a term directs to a gender neutral term, and when to the opposite sex? Today we try to find out if there is a logic already in the way redirects are assigned, and if a coherent strategy could be designed in accordance with Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Gender-neutral_language — Preceding unsigned comment added by Betekenis (talkcontribs) 15:28, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question: Should certain words be more protected from redirection? For instance: It seems like female terms of power are vanishing. Could some of the hard redirects from female to male terms be made into soft redirects? Example: Heroines - Heroes. MMelvaer (talk) 15:07, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
