Automagic category?
[edit]Should this category automatically be added to articles with the {{start STL box}} and {{start CML box}} templates? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghent (talk • contribs) 2006-06-06 14:04:47
- I think that the baseline solution should be to create Category:S-train stations and Category:Copenhagen Metro stations, and then let each be subcategories of both this one and their respective system category. A harder problem is which stations should be direct members of this category. The principle I have followed so far is to manually add Category:Railway stations in Copenhagen to stubs for stations located within the continuous urban area and not to stations in free-standing towns in open-countryside (e.g, Ballerup station is here, but Ølstykke station is not). On further thought I am not sure that this is better for navigation. Perhaps the rule should be that a station is a direct member of Category:Railway stations in Copenhagen if (a) it is inside the continuous Greater Copenhagen area, and (b) it is not purely an S-trains or metro station. - I agree with your last criteria. An S-train-only station is not a proper railway station, per se, ad a Metro-only station is definitely not. I'll change the STL and CML templates to have their respective categories in them. Ghent 19:06, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Question is whether stations shouldn't be a subcategory of either "S-trains in Copenhagen" or "Copenhagen Meto", and not part of the main category. Ghent 19:07, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think that they should definitely be a subcategory of both (the beauty of categories is that a category can have more than one parent). Somebody who browses the category to find which articles about stations there are in Wikipedia may not share the notion that the S-train system is not a "proper" railway (I don't, for example), so it should be easy for him to find what he looks for by following the category links that he finds most natural. (Will start implementing this). Henning Makholm 21:48, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- What about stations like København H? I know that you'd give it three-double category membership (and four-double in 2017), but I would expect to find major stations in "Category:Railway stations in Denmark", and not in a subcategory. I don't know what my own opinion is; I'm just asking. Ghent 09:08, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think that somebody who is looking specifically for København H would be able to figure out to look for it in the Copenhagen subcategory when he's looking at Category:Railway stations in Denmark. Henning Makholm 14:12, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
