[edit]I wonder why this is under "extinct languages"? A-giau 08:44, 12 Oct 2004 (UTC)
This category is a bit of a misnomer. Language families should go in Category:Language families; this should only cover proposed languages such as Proto-Indo-European, which are proposed as the ancestors of such families. --137.111.130.63 01:09, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Wrong category was deleted IMHO
[edit]At 19:52, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC) Tabor suggested merging Category:Proto-languages here; two people agreed and two people disagreed, and then Category:Proto-languages was deleted and its contents moved here. I object on the grounds that proto-language is an established term in historical linguistics, whereas proposed language is apparently a Wikipedia neologism meaning the same thing. This category should be renamed Category:Proto-languages. --Angr/tɔk tə mi 20:18, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- yes, i think that this should be renamed as well. Proposed language(s) is not so clear. i previously created Category:Proposed language families to separate out the undemonstrated "hunches" from reconstructed proto-languages, which were previously all grouped together under this category. peace – ishwar (speak) 20:31, 2005 Jun 22 (UTC)
Renaming
[edit]All proto-language articles should have "language" at the end, to be consistent with how articles for individual languages all have "language". This also disambiguates proto-language main articles from articles about proto-peoples, proto-vowels, and so on. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 17:20, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
