[edit]There is a
- Category:Encke-type comets, and a
- Category:Halley-type comets, but no
- Category:Jupiter-family comets. [created as of February 2018]
They (and others) are all sub-categories of Category:Periodic comets (short-period comets). However, currently, articles like Comet Encke and Halley's Comet are listed redundantly in both, the parent category periodic comets, as well as in their specific subcategory Category:Encke-type comets and Category:Halley-type comets, respectively.
Shouldn't we removed that redundancy, that is prone to inconsistencies and does not reflect the hierarchy of the classification system, while in the process, create the missing families and other types listed here? -- Cheers,Rfassbind – talk 00:03, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yes. Entirely correct. Jim.henderson (talk) 11:50, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
- Category:Jupiter-family comets has now been created (noted above). This should allow for a classification of nearly all periodic comets (parent) into subcategories. Rfassbind – talk 17:49, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
