Move/rename

[edit]

IMO this should be "People from the Cariboo" or "Cariboo people" as nobody self-identifies as being from a regional district; they're from a region, in case called simply "the Cariboo"; I think the same should also apply in other "people from" cats, i.e. they should be identified by region, not which para-municipal jurisdiction wherever they're from is in. NB of the two renames "Cariboo people" could include notables in the Cariboo's history, isntaed of people "from there" in the literal sense.Skookum1 (talk) 20:28, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No idea how people from the region identify themselves, but "Cariboo people" sounds funny. --Qyd (talk) 14:11, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, so does "People from the Cariboo Regional District", especially if that person is from the Chilcotin, and it sounds odd without the "the" as in the current title. The region-catname is currently "Cariboo Country" so "People from Cariboo Country" would work fine, although a bit archaic/old-timey sounding. "People from the Cariboo" is viable, but would maybe fit better if the catname was "The Cariboo". On the other hand, in various works from the regoin, it's asserted (as in Skelton's book and the title he used "This is Cariboo" that "the Cariboo" is incorrect and the definite article shoudl be left off; most people don't seem to use it that way, as also with Yukon/the Yukon (in that case "Yukon" is the official govt usage). More thoguhts on this later, I need more coffee, but basically it might be possible to "integrate" the RD-based cats with tru region-based cats by having one as a subcat of the other, depending on which RD (some RDs are parts of regions, others combine regions as with Cariboo....).Skookum1 (talk) 15:02, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Note that Category:People from Vancouver exists, not Category:Vancouver people......Skookum1 (talk) 15:05, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
