definition of "Pittsburgh"
[edit]Lawrence county is now part of the Consolidated metro I have heard. Monongalia County (Morgantown), Clarion, Venango, Indiana and Greene Counties are considered Pittsburgh by every major media outlet as defined by Neilsen DMA's. Neilsen is even shy about it considering that Wheeling, Weirton WV, Stubenville, East Liverpool Ohio have to depend on 3 network feeds from the city of Pittsburgh, and one of the network affilates on the Ohio/West Virginia areas actually have their broadcast tower in the Pittsburgh metro area, thus Wheeling or Stuebenville television is broadcast from Pittsburgh for 4 networks (3 officially and 1 by tower). Strange as well that the Nutting family who wanted to buy their "hometown" team call the Ohio/West Virginia communities home not Pittsburgh, the same first family of WV/east Ohio print press have now invested in their "hometown" ski resort, a resort that is in the Johnstown metro area according to the Census.
Western Maryland is actually included in Pittsburgh media numbers, making the Pittsburgh "market" a true Tri-State (PA, WV, MD) and that is even being kind and leaving out Ohio.
Johnstown/Altoona/State College also depend on Pittsburgh for the ABC station feed in parts (sister station in WC Pa.) while almost all of Meadville and Mercer Pennsylvania carry KDKA as their CBS affilate even though Eire has a CBS station.
According to the Army Corps of Engineers the Pittsburgh District covers all of Western Pennsylvania, northern and northwest West Virginia and east central Ohio.
