Proposed change

[edit]

These should all be changed to "Alumni of ...".--NeilEvans 19:01, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, they shouldn't.--Jackyd101 10:57, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NeilEvans and Jackyd101, you may be interested to see the three recent CFD discussions listed below. Xn4 23:18, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Leading school

[edit]

This category shows the dominant role Eton has had. As of today, there are 1,436 articles in the sub-category Old Etonians, one more than the total for the next five schools put together (Old Westminsters 408, Old Harrovians 350, Old Wykehamists 281, Old Marlburians 203, and Old Greshamians 193). Another cfd

[edit]

Category:Brighton College alumni and Category:Old Brightonians are being discussed at the category's entry on the Categories for discussion page. Occuli (talk) 12:16, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And the decision (see here) was to delete Category:Brighton College alumni. Xn4 (talk) 10:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Insertion / deletion of this category on wiki pages

[edit]

On which pages is it appropriate to insert this category? Personally, I like this category but it appears on very few school alumni pages perhaps because it is being routinely deleted. I consider it more informative than the category Lists of British people by school affiliation which does not mention the number of persons in each subcategory. Nevertheless, this category is being deleted from the alumni pages of some schools, as it was today from List of Old Malvernians and List of Old Guildfordians. Is there a good reason why this must be so? --Abacchus1974 (talk) 19:31, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Timrollpickering, Could you explain your rationale, or reason, from deletion of this category from a number of School alumni pages. In your edits, you only say that you "remove from parent cat". It will be good for everyone to know why they are being deleted! Thanks! --Abacchus1974 (talk) 22:14, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because there are specific former pupil categories for the schools in question, which in turn are in the parent category. Articles should generally reside in the relevant subcategory, with the parent as an overall guide to them. Timrollpickering (talk) 22:36, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
