[edit]@Johnbod: Any comments on this one? PPEMES (talk) 10:13, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
- I think my recent re-adding to the Catholics" category was correct, otherwise no. Johnbod (talk) 15:33, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
- From the article Old Catholic Church: "These churches are not in full communion with the Holy See." Catholic redirect to Catholic Church - " headed by the Bishop of Rome, known as the pope. Its central administration is the Holy See." Why should the category tree deviate? PPEMES (talk) 17:37, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Because they are still Catholic in a broader sense, which is why they were in that tree for years. See Catholic Church (disambiguation) and other pages linked there. The redirect gives the primary meaning, but not the exclusive one. Johnbod (talk) 17:41, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Could you please guide me to where that statement is reflected within the article realm, preferably other than a disambiguation page? The precise wording "Old Catholics" nor "Catholics" is nowhere to be found in referenced disambiguation page for that sake. PPEMES (talk) 17:44, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Desist. 'Old Catholics' are 'catholics' and so 'Old Catholics' form a subcat of 'Catholics'. Oculi (talk) 19:30, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Moreover Catholics misdirects to Catholic Church via this edit by the ubiquitous PPEMES. You can't use yourself as an independent authority. Oculi (talk) 19:40, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Simply restored what was assigned WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for half a decade priorly. For sources, I refer to Catholic Church possibly with the addition of Catholic (term). All these three mentioned article realm contents indicate that "Catholic" = "Catholic Church" as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. And nothing says that Old Catholicism belongs in Catholic Church. Hence nor Category:Catholics to the best of my understanding. PPEMES (talk) 21:43, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

- In its most common usage, "Catholic" means the Catholic Church. Old Catholics, while not part of the Catholic Church, and therefore not Catholics, could be considered part of "Catholicism" in the broader sense. This category is already filed under Old Catholicism > Independent Catholicism > Catholicism, which is adequate and appropriate. No need to muddy the waters. I suspect Old Catholics might even take offense at being lumped together with regular Catholics. Jdcompguy (talk) 11:52, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Jdcompguy: So why don't you go ahead and revert back to the prior stand WP:CONSENSUS? PPEMES (talk) 12:01, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- Old Catholics are certainly catholics, if not Catholics. And it's not consensus, even here. Oculi (talk) 13:25, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
