Redirection rationale

[edit]

This category was previously deleted. In lieu of deleting it again, I am making it a soft redirect to Category:South Korean people of North Korean origin so people stop recreating it. Unless there is some major change in the political situation on the Korean peninsula, this category should be empty.

The reason is that it is not possible to be a "North Korean expatriate in South Korea". South Korea does not recognise the existence of a separate North Korean nationality. North Korean citizens living abroad must register for South Korean citizenship in order to settle in South Korea. At that point they are not "expatriates in South Korea", they are South Korean nationals in South Korea. We do not categorise people living in the state of their own nationality as expatriates, regardless if there are other states which consider them to be nationals as well. 61.18.170.243 (talk) 12:16, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
