Candidate for merging.

Propose merging Category:Nontrinitarian denominations to Category:Antitrinitarianism

Nominator's rationale: Merge.

The contents of both overlap to a large degree. However, Antitrinitarianism as the broader definition, encompassing not just denominations, but also the theologies and the "isms" that lie behind the denominations. I see no reason to have denominations as a child of Antitrinitarianism as the two would always want to be read together. Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:21, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Oppose. No, it seems more logical that there must be more nontrinitarians than antitrinitarians, because many Trinity-disbelieving Christians do not actually campaign against belief in the Trinity.
Thus, antitrinitarianism is a subset of nontrinitarianism. In practice, the term "nontrinitarian" has largely replaced "antitrinitarian"; newer works by Trinitarians are beginning to reflect their tacit acknowledgment that the the older term is often inappropriate.

• 2004. "The arms of the family" by John T. Shawcross, page 180, "Likewise, one is cast as an "antitrinitarian" ("nontrinitarian" might be better) if any specifications are attached to "three persons indivisible.""
• 2002. "The mosaic of Christian belief" by Roger E. Olsen, page 141-142, "That is, under consideration here are only those views of God that are non-trinitarian or even anti-trinitarian and yet embraced and promoted by people and groups identifying themselves as Christians."

Again, Nontrinitarianism actually has the broader definition, encompassing denominations, theologies, and other "isms" such as antitrinitarianism.
Recommend 1. Rename this category to "Category:Nontrinitarianism"; 2. Retain Category:Nontrinitarian denominations; 3. Move specific denomination articles into Category:Nontrinitarian denominations.--AuthorityTam (talk) 16:18, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I find myself in the strange position of agreeing with everything that you have written above but having to oppose your oppose. Basically, that was my argument in the whole "merge Trinitarianism into Trinitarian Denominations" bebate a few weeks back. I lost that debate. Move denominations

Editors may have seen Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2010 December 10#Category:Nontrinitarian denominations and Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2010 December 29#Category:Antitrinitarianism#Category:Antitrinitarianism; that accomplished step 1..
Now, it seems advisable to proceed with steps 2. and 3.:

• 1. Rename "Category:Antitrinitarianism" to "Category:Nontrinitarianism";
• 2. Retain Category:Nontrinitarian denominations;
• 3. Move specific denomination articles into Category:Nontrinitarian denominations.
