I would like to rename this to Motorcycle sport inline with renaming the "Motorcycle racing" article to "Motorcycle sport" Pickle 15:50, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK I've moved everyhitng (I hope!) across to "Category:Motorcycle sport" from the old "Category:Motorcycle racing" Pickle 15:04, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Motorcycle sport is an inaccurate description of motorcycle racing. Most organizations that sanction racing (hare and hounds) and non racing but competitive events (enduros) make the compromise and choose Motorcycle competition instead of racing. Motorcycle sport would be more in line for a description of non-competitive events such as tours, poker runs, etc. How about a compromise to Motorcycle competition? --I already forgot 19:46, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Its the term we use all the time in the UK. Over here Trials is a very big thing (it's not racing), and as far as i know the phrase "sport" has been used for a considerable length of time. For example see [this page] about the history of the ACU (the UK governing body). Similarly on [this page] about the AMA (US governing body), it also uses the phrase "motorcycle sport", in reference to the FIM (world governing body). Over here the stuff like tours, trail runs, gymkhanas, etc, etc are typically refereed to a "social" activities or even "leisure" motorcycling (over here the lobbying for these events is not done, as such, by the sports governing body - although it is - as i understand it - in the US). The FIM site, talk also about "sport and touring" [23] in its history - see the note at the end of the page especially. I hope that makes it clear why i did what i did, i could do some more digging to explain it more. I sincerely hope i haven't offended anyone or undermined anyone with what I've done.
