How inclusive should this category be? Towns where mining is their main reason for existing would be obvious inclusions, but what about towns with mining where it is not the main industry? Or towns which used to be known as mining communities but not anymore? Even limiting this to the first criteria this category could easily be filled with hundreds of small towns in one state alone, West Virginia and Nevada come to mind. What about cities which are/were historical centers of mining activity even though most people would not think of them as "mining communities" - Pittsburgh and San Francisco for example?
