- Move to full CfD. Indigenous peoples is the pertinent article (note the plural), and the first endnote there says that most style guides recommend a capital "I" in running text. The category's current scope is conceptually shaky, conflating as it does people indigenous to the Americas with ones from the Basque Country; it should probably be reserved for capital-I Indigenous peoples, which means only the first group. The idea of animal breeds originating from people has a problematic ring; is there a better way of expressing this? Ham II (talk) 14:13, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

Wikihistorian (talk) 07:59, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Wikihistorian: "Indigenous people(s)" without a geographical qualifier is where capitalization is an issue, because a lower-case "i" would raise the question of who the indigenous Europeans are, and whether a category tree should include them as well as people indigenous to other continents. That means capitalization only really has a bearing on Category:Breeds originating from Indigenous people out of the categories named in this discussion. I could live with the inconsistency of "Indigenous peoples" tout court and "indigenous peoples of North America", but someone arguing for consistency would also have a point.
