Naming format

[edit]

The articles within this category need to be reviewed for consistency, as they currently use a variety of different title formats. Which should be the standard title format for articles of this type?

  1. (City) media
  2. Media of (City)
  3. Media in (City)
  4. List of media in (City)
  5. List of media outlets in (City)
  6. List of (City) media
  7. Other?

Note that numbers 2 through 6 are already all in use on some articles within this category. None currently uses choice #1, though I've put that up as an option nonetheless just in case there is actually a preference for it. And, of course, other options should be considered as well if somebody has a good suggestion. (For clarification, the current usage status is as follows: Canadian entries are almost all at format #2 with a few at format #3, Indian, Australian and UK entries are all at format #3, and US entries are predominantly at format #3, but with considerable use of #2, as well as #4, #5 and #6 being used in at least one case each and a case of "Media in metropolitan (City)" to boot.) Off the top, I'd drop #5 since that has very minor usage and is not a common form for articles. I'll reserve addition comments until there is some consensus on the need to append list to all of these articles. If they are in fact, or should be, lists, then they probably should have list in the name. Vegaswikian (talk) 20:49, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Although some are just lists in practice, the primary idea is for each of them to become a real article about media in the city, getting into history and context as well, not just a list. Bearcat (talk) 20:51, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If that is the goal, and I believe it is a reasonable one, then 4, 5 and 6 are not under consideration. I think we are down to either 2 or 3 and maybe 1. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:55, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Given the nearly universal usage of "Radio stations in X" and "Television stations in X" (curse you, "Swedish television channels"!) I'm strongly in favor of #3, "Media in X" per precedent and clarity. - Dravecky (talk) 05:29, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a week, and there's been no further input on this. I'll give it a few more days, but if there are no objections I think we may as well go with #3 per Dravecky's reasoning. Bearcat (talk) 14:06, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
