The decision was to keep this category, but we still need a coherent rationale for inclusion / exclusion... I'd suggest any major landforms or structures, Cadw-supported sites or curiosities such as the Seven Wonders of Wales could be included. Any thoughts? Pondle (talk) 22:25, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
The problem with that is it would exclude more modern structures that more people would associate with Wales like the Severn Bridge or Millennium Stadium. What criteria, if any, do other landmark pages use? Welshleprechaun (talk) 00:47, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
- I suggested including major structures, although in the absence of an official list, which ones count as true landmarks is highly subjective. As for the other categories of this type, I've looked at a few of the sub-categories of Category:Landmarks by country now and many of them seem to be equally random (there's only one landmark in the Netherlands page, for example). Category:Landmarks in the United Kingdom is a redirect to Category:Visitor attractions in the United Kingdom, but as I said in the deletion discussion, this isn't appropriate in my view because a visitor attraction and a landmark aren't necessarily the same thing.Pondle (talk) 09:47, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
You're right in saying that a visitor attraction and a landmark aren't necessarily the same thing. Not all visitor attractions are landmarks, like Techniquest but in general landmarks are visitor attractions, the Millennium Stadium for example. - Yes, but there are also landmarks that aren't tourist attractions: bridges like the Second Severn Crossing, tall buildings like The Tower, Meridian Quay, big industrial facilities such as the Port Talbot Steelworks are all highly-visible features on the landscape (Goodall's definition of a landmark) but they aren't visitor attractions. I'm going to nominate the wider Category:Landmarks by country for deletion and see what happens. Pondle (talk) 16:29, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
