[edit]Many of these stubs need more text and third-party references to establish notability. A stub such as Kawabe Dam has very little information and just does not seem adequate for a WP article. Maybe what is needed is a List of dams in Japan, rather than a separate article for each dam. Johnfos (talk) 07:32, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
I disagree, Yes they all need a lot of work undoubtedly and references but actually there is enough information in Japanese to constitute seperate articles. There may however by one or two which have lesser significance but I'm sure these can be spotted easily. Actually the Kawabe Dam which you described as inadequate as a lot of web sources in english see google search. I am willing to bet that 99% of these stubs are notable and can also be expanded substantially. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:06, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Stub sorting - sub-categories - some statistics
[edit]I've reviewed all of the A-articles and come up with the statistics shown in the sub-sections below. I'm thinking that Prefecture-level sub-cats might be too small. For Islands other than the main island, though, creating sub-cats for these might be useful. Completion decade might also be a practicable sub-sorting dimension; might create sub-cats for non-Honshu islands and completion-decade cats for Honshu island dams. Thoughts? --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:55, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Kyushu
[edit]Looking at Kyushu Island, there are seven prefectures: Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, Oita and Saga. Using Intersection searches between "Japanese dam stubs" and each prefecture category (depth 10) turned up:
- "Saga Prefecture" intersection --> 37 articles
- "Fukuoka Prefecture" intersection --> 61 articles
- "Kagoshima Prefecture" intersection --> 35 articles
- "Kumamoto Prefecture" intersection --> 30 articles
- "Miyazaki Prefecture" intersection --> 46 articles
- "Nagasaki Prefecture" intersection --> 0 articles, which I think is not correct
- "Ōita Prefecture" intersection --> 11 articles
Total articles: 37 + 61 + 35 + 30 + 46 + 11 = 220. This is above the standard minimum threshold for stub template + category creation.

Hokkaido
[edit]This has a single prefecture, Hokkaido Prefecture; intersection of "Hokkaido" and "Japanese dam stubs" categories returns 168 articles.

Shikoku
[edit]Intersection of "Shikoku region" and "Japanese dam stubs" categories returns 149 articles.

Honshu regions
[edit]Intersections with "Japanese dam stubs"...
- "Tōhoku region", 241 articles
- "Kantō region", 136 articles
- "Chūbu region", 344 articles
- "Kansai region", 170 articles
- "Chūgoku region", 200 articles
Impact
[edit]Creation of stub templates + categories for each of the intersections noted above would allow sub-cat sorting of 1,628 articles ... which exceeds the approximate count of the origin stub category currently counted at 1,598. No doubt there are some errors in the calculations / estimates, but the point is that the creations would effectively whittle "Japanese dam stubs" down to a small sub-cat sorting category. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:18, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
