-Check if they are on a major label or not, if they are, then its a false claim to Indie Rock, and would better be called Imitation Indie Rock, or some such. Are there any terms like that on here? Seems to me like there a hundred incorrect categorizations. Could do with a bot to fix it all. --VirianFlux 11:18, 1 July 2006 (GMT)
Why do certain bands have a subcategory? 152.163.100.134 01:30, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi all -- this category needs work. I've been browsing around Wikipedia's music pages, and all the indie-rock genre confusion has replicated itself on the site. Wikipedia needs to develop a single, consistent volcabulary to organize around, because right now, things that should be together are distributed in a half-dozen unrelated pages. The band Low, for example, was (until I edited the article) listed in "American Rock Groups" but not "Indie Rock Groups." There's also an "American Musical Groups" page with genre categories for The Beach Boys (why on earth is there a category devoted to one band??) and that includes a mixture of indie rock and bands like Blink-182. Not trying to say anything bad about Blink-182, but the organization doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. 68.196.119.5 17:02, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
- Not trying to bring up the obvious or anything but this category is somewhat subjective as far as the inclusion criteria goes. Who determines who is indie and who isn't? I hope it's not the people at the record store where I go because they have a section for rock/pop and another for indie. Death Cab for Cutie was in rock/pop while The Long Winters was in indie. They are both on Barsuk (Death Cab actually left in 2005, but most of their recordings to date are on Barsuk), so I started wondering about what criteria they were using to separate the two categories. I always thought label was a pretty good indicator. Does anyone have any input? I know there is always going to be subjectivity involved, but if anyone knows what criteria has been used for this category page I'd like to hear about it.--Hraefen 04:06, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
Why do Arctic Monkeys have their own Sub-Category?
[edit]Because someone added it there in defiance of WP:STYLE. I'll remove it.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 11:33, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
