Graphics chips vs. graphics cards

[edit]

Not a bad idea, this category. But we probably need to decide how we define a "graphics chip" in relation to the already categorized graphics cards---the latter category actually contains modern (3D) GPUs rather than cards as such, which is admittedly more of a problem with the definition of *that* category rather than this one. :-) Anyway, I guess we should be careful not to include any modern GPUs here; at least until we get the gfx chip/card/GPU relations sorted out. --Wernher 04:06, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea to have this category. I think it is good for there to be a separate category with old ‘graphics chips’ as opposed to modern-day GPUs. Take a look at the Video Display Processor article, I added some prose which explains what –I think that– the difference between VDPs and GPUs is... That a good enough definition? In any case, there should be a ‘Graphics chip’ article to accompany this category, and it should contain a clear definition of what is a graphic chip, and what not (modern GPUs). I vote for re-instating the graphics chip article. Grauw 09:47, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Graphics processing units

[edit]

The contents of this category has been moved to Category:Graphics processing units, despite the fact that most of the devices discussed in those articles are not Graphics processing units at all, they are simple graphics chips. For example all of the MOS Technology devices. I would suggest to completely revert to the situation as it was. Ronaldvd (talk) 15:21, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
