Although a minor consideration, the numbering and ordering of grammatical cases is inconsistent and in places contradictory (see particularly Proto-Indo-European language, Nominative case, Vocative case, Instrumental case, etc.)
Whilst it may be that different authors and sources prefer different orderings, when this is the case references are desirable - and from the perspective of study, consistency is highly desirable (for example in the creation of mnemonics).
If it were practicable, it would be helpful to standardise the ordering and numbering of cases. Recognising however that the number of cases varies considerably among languages, I can only ask if it would perhaps be possible to standardise according to language families.
I am not qualified to do more than observe and note this issue; perhaps someone else could help?
