[edit]Add Stroszek to the list. After Ian Curtis (lead singer of Joy Division) watched it, he committed suicide himself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.118.120.105 (talk) 23:19, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Someone needs to add Dead Poets Society to this list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.50.210.194 (talk) 12:20, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I believe the nominator, while well intended, has jumped the gun on this speedy. The rationale for the previous deletion included the fact that List of films about suicide exists (this will probably soon be rightfully deleted), and various claims about how 'POV' inclusion will or will not be. The fact is that it is completely possible to have strict criteria for the inclusion of a film in a category 'films about x subject', and that all it really takes is a small amount of dedication and discretion on the part of editors. At the very least, I ask that this be re-listed in CfD. CaveatLectorTalk 02:11, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think there should have been more than one person's consensus to recreate this category. It's definitely a pain to go through AfD all over again because of your attempt to save this topic from deletion. But ok, if you can make this category work, and really work then I suppose it's a justified recreation. All the entries right now with the exception of Taste of Cherry are not films about suicide. They are films featuring suicide (and Leaving Las Vegas is questionable). Bulldog123 16:03, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- I disagree on two points. One, consensus is not required to recreate a category. I wonder where exactly you'd prepose I could GAIN consensus to do that. Secondly, the films that are populating the category now handle suicide, its ramifications, and its handling by society as major themes within the films. A film does not need to be about one-and-only-one thing (and, indeed, no film can be) to be categorized in this manner. CaveatLectorTalk 21:34, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps you could gain consensus to recreate the current category on...the AfD for the list. And how is "A film does not need to be about one-and-only-one thing (and, indeed, no film can be) to be categorized in this manner" not original-researchy? It seems to me like a self-made definition for what can and can't be categorized. Is there a movie genre I'm not aware of that is almost synonymous "movies about suicide"? What prevents you from making Category:Films about housemaids and purport that if a maid is primary character, this is a legitimate way to categorize films that isn't WP:OCAT? - If you wish to use a comparable 'films about' hypothetical category, then I think Category:Films about class struggle or Category:Films about classcism or Category:Films about unemployment would make much better comparisons. Suicide is a social phenomenon, not an indiscriminate describer (i.e. 'housemaids') or a broad conceptual idea (Category:Films about love?). Saying that a film has, as one of it's themes, suicide is no more original researchy than saying the film was made in 1950 or had a certain director or a certain actor. If I am to understand your logic, is any 'Films about...' category possible? And if so what sort of 'Film about' category would be? CaveatLectorTalk 21:18, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Help! I'm trying to find the original list. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please? Thank you. dougfan@hotmail.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.167.234.80 (talk) 22:56, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Add dead poet's society
[edit]It won't let me edit the page, but Dead Poet's Society deserves to be on there. Also, Bicentennial Man. I think if nothing else, it is interesting to note how many of Robin Williams's movies had suicide as a big theme. At least you have World's Greatest Dad on the list already.
