Criteria?

[edit]

Is there any criteria given for deciding which diets should be included as "fad" diets? Myoglobin (talk) 20:41, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: Judging from selection, I see that any diet not endorsed by the industry or the US government is a target for inclusion. So I would guess that is the case. Especially since the Vegan diet isn't included, even though a normal vegan diet lacks essential nutrients like B12 and will result in death unless you supplement or get food not available in your regular store. The fact that "Intermittent fasting" gives over 10,000 research articles at pubmed and has been practiced worldwide by most religions and people continously for at least 2000 years, obviously makes it a "fad". The personal preferences and someone's opinions is strongly reflected in this type of Wikipedia labeling. (Can't trust people to make up their own minds from the facts, so you need to apply a proper label from the start.)
