Name and purpose of this category
[edit]Er... aren't all scripts a human invention rather than a natural phenomenon? So aren't just all scripts artificial?
The point is probably that the scripts in question have been consciously developed and weren't the result of a slow but steady evolution. Even so, all scripts have at one time or another been formed or fundamentally altered by someone's initiative: starting to display abstract qualities, starting to use a glyphs phonetic value, a decision to discard ideographic signs, arrangements over points and strokes in order to distinguish letters, spelling disputes etc. Let's not forget that writing, unlike language, is not universal in Homo sapiens and thus far less 'natural' and far more artificial.
