Category talk:Canonizations by Pope Leo XIII
Alphabetical order
[edit]Not all the elements of this category are shown in their alphabetical order. I've modified the template:Defaultsort for the article Jean-Baptiste de La Salle and now it is indexed under the letter J based on his name.
Template:Defaultsort suggests to order by surname, but it doesn't clarify if this is the WP standard for alle the articles.
I have simply added the following string to each of the elements of this category that I've modified (e.g. Máedóc of Ferns and Jerome of Pavia). I didn't change the related defaultsort by name or surname. Therefore, if some element don't math the alphabetical order, this is what also happened in the categories associated to the article before my last edit.
Do we have to modify the "defaultsort" template by surname, contestually to the categorization? Thanks for any help.Micheledisaveriosp (talk) 12:59, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- Defaultsort is used to sort names of persons by their last names which makes sense in most cases. In a category of saints it doesn't make sense to sort by surname and sorting by first name is preferred. You can override the Defaultsort like so:

- In this case, Defaultsort only applies to the first three categories. I hope this helps. --Saint-Louis (talk) 14:32, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
