Approach to categorisation
[edit]- What is to be considered a Beeching closure? Stations mentioned in the report which closed directly as a result of it are obviously covered. But what about those over which the axe hung until the late 1960s and was wielded by the subsequent Labour government (see for example New Romney and Littlestone-on-Sea)? Are only stations/lines specifically reprieved to be excluded?
- Given the number of stations in the England subcategory, is it worth breaking it down further into counties?
- Is there a case for creating a subcategory for stations which survived the axe and if so what should it be called?
- Is there a case for having a subcategory for lines which closed as a result of the axe? Several Scottish lines already figure in the main category.
- Where the station article doesn't exist, would it be a good approach to create a redirect pointing at the relevant line article pending the creation of a full article? Lamberhurst (talk) 12:40, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- Splitting the stations down into England, Scotland, Wales is sensible because Appendix 2 of the first Beeching report is split similarly (app. 2 sections 3, 4, 5 respectively), and so checking is made easier: further splitting down by county would make such checking more difficult.
- Separating off the various lines from the individual stations is also sensible, but whether these should also subdivided by country is not as simple as for stations, since all lines are in a single list, see appendix 2 sections 1, 2. This list has no subdivisions; but seems to be organised by BR Region - the Scottish Region is on pages 102-3, the North Eastern Region is on pages 103-4, the London Midland is on pages 104-5, the Eastern on pages 105-6, the Western on page 106, and the Southern Region is on pages 106-7. Thus, Welsh lines occur on pages 104 and 106. Section 2 (pages 107-8) is similarly organised, except that there are no ScR lines. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:34, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
Seperate by country?
[edit]I suppose the intention is to seperate those left in the main category (minus 2) into England, Scotland or Wales as appropriate? There are only 85 left of the c1006 total. And the English ones at least would also be in the Disused stations by county category. Hugo999 (talk) 11:43, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
