Are they really alumni? My impression was they were scholarship holders for sport, not for education? --LauraHale (talk) 22:41, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Hey there Laura. Good question. I asked myself the same thing and wasn't sure what to call the category. However the Wiki page for alumnus states that "An alumnus can also be a former member, employee, contributor or inmate as well as a former student". I've already added a load of people to the category and am going to bed but am open to discussion if you or anyone else thinks that the cat should be renamed Cls14 (talk) 23:06, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
- There tends to be a big difference in my opinion because being a scholarship holder tends to be rather prestigious in some ways. There are also teams based at the Australian Institute of Sport, including the WNBL team. I'd just be inclined to separate employees from scholarship holders. --LauraHale (talk) 23:20, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
- I got the impression that all athletes there (i.e. the ones being coached) were scholarship holders as no-one pays. Staff/trainers (those getting paid to coach the scholars) aren't included in this category I've created. Does that make sense? Again, I'm not saying alumni is perfect but can't think of a better word! Cls14 (talk) 07:55, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- The sources I have access to describe them as both scholarship holders and alumni, but more of them use scholarships. This includes lists of Olympic related documents. It just feels more clear to use "scholarship holders" instead of Alumni, especially as there really isn't a graduation per say. http://www.ausport.gov.au/ais/scholarships explains that some. If you do a search for both terms on their website, alumni is about 47 and scholarships is about 950. --LauraHale (talk) 10:07, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah that sounds more than reasonable. So category would be "Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holders" then right? I'm happy to go with that. One thing though before I actually do it, any idea if I can change all those I've put in this category automatically over to the new name or will someone (i.e. me, haha) have to change them all manually?
