– – Fayenatic London 15:43, 15 September 2020 (UTC)- Category:AppleTV+ films to Category:Apple TV+ original films – C2D per Apple TV+ and C2C per most of Category:American television films; IP moved the articles but not the category Le Deluge (talk) 23:16, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
- Might not apply as its also in Category:American films by studio which is how all the entries are listed. --Gonnym (talk) 19:05, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Le Deluge and Gonnym: I tried to revert the category changes on the articles, but somehow placed most of them into Category:Apple TV+ films instead. (I think I rolled back the wrong IP's edits.) That name did not seem to be opposed by the above, so I changed the remaining articles likewise and moved the category page to that name. Is that an acceptable outcome? – Fayenatic London 21:31, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: It comes down to whether Apple TV is considered a cinema film studio - which use the "Foo films" format, or a television station, which uses the "Foo original films" format. I'd suggest that its name alone implies we treat it as the latter, matching eg Category:Netflix original films, but it's not something I'd go to the wall on. Le Deluge (talk) 21:42, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, Le Deluge. @Gonnym: do you accept the precedent of Netflix (and its many sub-cats) as sufficient rationale to depart from the majority pattern within Category:American films by studio? – Fayenatic London 20:21, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Looking closer at the categories it would seem like there is some confusion on the scope of them. Taking Category:Touchstone Pictures films as an example it has Father of the Bride (1991 film) which is produced by Touchstone but distributed by Buena Vista Pictures; Category:20th Century Fox Television films has Blood Feud (1983 film) which it produced. Now looking at Category:Netflix original films it has El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, both of which it didn't produce but only distributed. Category:Apple TV+ films also did not produce Hala (film). So it would seem Category:American films by studio category and "Company films" should only be for films produced by a studio and "Company original films" should not be in that category and is for film networks/channels/sites where a film was originally distributed. If AppleTV+ or Network have films which they produced then they should probably have both categories but from sampling of both I couldn't find any* (found two but checking the IMDb production credits didn't place them as producers). So yeah, support move and moving both categories out of the studio parent as well. --Gonnym (talk) 07:56, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Gonnym: OK, so is the proper parent Category:Television films, which also holds Category:Disney XD original films alongside Netflix? – Fayenatic London 15:39, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe. I see there is no Television film by network category, so for now that seems correct. --Gonnym (talk) 07:27, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- I realised that that category was also analysed by country, so those distributors' films are now in Category:American television films. 15 of that category's sub-cats now have the naming format "Foo original films". – Fayenatic London 21:22, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- The style of "x films" is probably bad as it's unclear what the scope is and a more correct style would be "Films produced by x" and "Films distributed by x", making these such of categories much more clear (and also addressing an issue some people had with names such as "X Film films"). --Gonnym (talk) 07:58, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
