[edit]The nature of this category is unclear. Is it intended only for people who either died before a certain age or are still under a certain age? Or also for people who achieved fame young, even though they may now be older? And what is the age in question?
- Yes, pretty much. As for the age, I'd say any where from birth to under 20. --User:Carie
For example, does Annette Funicello belong here? Shirley Temple? Judy Garland? -- Jmabel | Talk 02:24, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- They are in American child actors, which is a subcat, so they don't need to be included here. --User:Carie
Judy Garland, Shirley Temple and Jamie Lynn Spears are all eligible for inclusion in both cat:american child actors and cat:american child singers, an do not need to be included in the parent cat. Lehla 02:01, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
I removed articles in the main parent category that are in a direct subcategory of this category. Only in the event that an article does not belong in any subcategory is it allowed to remain in the parent category.
However there might be a rare case in which some articles may belong in more than one subcategory and in this case the parent category along with the subcategory will suffice.
- Example; Judith Barsi and JonBenet Ramsey are child stars who were murdered. There's no category for murdered children of the U.S. so they remain in the parent category, along with being in cat:american child actors.
- Example; Frances Bean Cobain and Haley Jade Scott, are related to famous singers. However neither have made careers of singing or acting themselves so they remain in cat:american children and no other subcategory. If a subcat is ever made for offspring of american celebrities then they can be removed from the parent cat and go in it.
So basically, american child actors remain in cat:american child actors unless they were murdered or kidnapped or went missing. cat:Barney and Friends actors, cat:disney actors are american child actors and will also remain in cat:american child actors, not the parent category of cat:american children.

- I don't understand; have either of the example children Frances Bean Cobain and Haley Jade Scott actually 'made history' themselves? Or are they only included because of famous relatives? There are presumably tens of thousands of children who fit such a wide prerequisite. Also, would someone like Billy Gilman, who is an American child singer, but who also achieved a Guiness Book of World Records record as a child, be suitable for placement in both categories? --Markzero 08:11, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- Lehla's left Wikipedia, so this will probably remain unanswered. I am adding BIlly to the list. --Markzero 16:19, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I suggest adding a subcategory of child athletes. There are a good deal of elite athletes under the age of 18 (which is the age I would categorize as child/minor vs. adult). Vesperholly 10:34, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
notice of revision
[edit]I intend to revise this category, to only include names of individuals who are notable in their own right. A mere relationship to someone notable is not enough. I will be doing this slowly, as I find time. If you want to point out names for removal, or just remove them yourself, that would be great. Remember that, in order to remove from a category, you actually go to the linked redirect, stub, or article and edit that. --Markzero 15:29, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
