Their seems to be a lot of politicians on this page, any thoughts on should their be a "American Methodists in Politics" sub-category. WikipedianYknOK 13:31, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At least three early Astronauts, Gordon Cooper, Thomas Stafford, and Edward White, were Methodists. For Cooper, refer to his autobiography "Leap of Faith". For Stafford, refer to his autobiography "We Have Capture". White's affiliation was mentioned in a 1965 book published by LIFE Magazine (Title UNK). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.223.252.76 (talk) 22:11, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Standard for being included on this list

[edit]

Many people are a member of this category despite no proof of the person's Methodist affiliation being offered in the article. People should only be in this category if text within the article supports the person's Methodist affiliation.

Being a Methodist means being a member of a Methodist church or having some other strong religious affiliation with Wesleyan principles.

The following are not sufficient evidence of a person's Methodist affiliation:

  • Going to a Methodist-affiliated school.
  • Getting a divinity degree from a Methodist-affiliated theology school (many ministers of other denominations get their degrees through Methodist schools).
  • Being born of Methodist parents.
  • Being related to Methodist ministers.

At this time, I have inspected all people in A-K. Many have been removed who show no evidence whatsoever of being a Methodist. Nova SS 20:51, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
