Future expansion

[edit]

Aviation Safety Network page at [1] lists 40 shootdowns of airliners from 1943 to 1999. Information is very sparse on the first few. Some of the shootdowns listed on this page were during wartime - the first one in the list was shot down by the Germans, who thought Winston Churchill was aboard, it says - and they are not all civilian airliners; some of the early ones have 'operator' listed as the US Army Air Force. This makes me think this category should somehow be called "Civilian airliner shootdowns during peacetime", though this begs to several other questions of definition.
