Category:Tanagers
Appearance
The bird family Thraupidae has undergone heavy revision in recent times. Many species formerly placed here are now moved elsewhere, e.g. in the Cardinalidae. Others, namely some supposed Emberizidae, are now recognized to be closely related to the tanagers proper.
This category collects birds called "tanagers" and birds traditionally placed in the Thraupidae, regardless of their actual relationships. Its contents do not form a natural group but rather a motley assemblage of songbirds of similar shape and habits.
- For the family's current genera, see Category:Thraupidae.
