The Royal houses, of which members ruled the Duchy of Lower Lorraine, a constituent duchy of the Kingdom of Germany, and a State of the Holy Roman Empire, from 959 until 1190. Lower Lorraine encompassed most part of modern-day Belgium, the Netherlands, the northern part of the Germany's Rhineland and the eastern parts of France's Nord Pas De Calais region.
