Rotundas in Europe, roofed buildings with a circular ground plan, and sometimes covered by domes. The term may also refer to round rooms within a building (a famous example being the one below the dome of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.). The Pantheon in Rome is perhaps the most famous, and is the most influential rotunda.
