Category:Oregon pioneers
Appearance
American pioneers, missionaries, trappers, and traders who arrived and settled in what is now the U.S. state of Oregon before 1890, especially those who arrived on the Oregon Trail from 1843 until 1855 and those who arrived pre-statehood in 1859. 1890 is when the United States Census Bureau officially declared the U.S. frontier closed. People who arrived by ship and took up residence in Portland as merchants, bankers, etc., may not meet the definition of pioneer. People born in Oregon during this era should not be included.
