Category:Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball
Appearance
This category includes men's basketball at Oklahoma State University. For OSU women's basketball, see Category:Oklahoma State Cowgirls basketball. Note that Oklahoma State has an unusual naming history:
- The school was originally known as Oklahoma A&M, with the nickname of "Aggies".
- In 1923, the modern nickname of "Cowboys" was first used, but for several decades "Cowboys" and "Aggies" were used interchangeably.
- In 1957, the school adopted its modern name of Oklahoma State University, and permanently dropped the "Aggies" nickname. Women's sports, which first became prominent with the passage of Title IX in the 1970s, have always used the nickname of "Cowgirls".
