Men's pursuit in the Winter Olympics was first held in 1992. The event has been changed repetedly over the years.
- 1992–1998: 15 kilometre freestyle pursuit based on a 10 kilometre classical event.
- 2002: 10 kilometre freestyle pursuit based on a 10 kilometre classical event.
- 2006–: 15 kilometre classical followed by a change to freestyle gear; then 15 kilometre freestyle. Named 30 kilometre skiathlon since 2014.
