This is a category containing Local Government Areas in the area of Brisbane. As a group they have no special administrative status, but are grouped as a subcategory of Local Government Areas of Queensland for convenience. In 1925, 20 municipalities and shires were absorbed into Greater Brisbane as a single Local Government Area, the City of Brisbane. Since the 1960s, Brisbane has expanded to include significant areas to the north, south and southwest of the City's municipal boundaries.
