Appearance
This category contains articles related to the native lichens of Northern Europe.
- For the purposes of this category, "Northern Europe" is defined in accordance with the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions (WGSRPD) (here adopted for use with lichen flora), namely as a region within the botanical continent of Europe that includes the following areas, typically defined by the political boundaries of its constituents:
- Denmark
- Finland
- the Faroe Islands
- Great Britain (the island)
- Iceland
- Ireland (the island)
- Norway
- Svalbard
- Sweden
- This is smaller than some geographical definitions of Northern Europe, which often include Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, placed in Eastern Europe in the WGSRPD.
- Native taxa of the lowest rank are included if they occur widely in the region, otherwise they are placed in the flora of one or more of the constituent areas. Higher taxa are included only if endemic.
