From 1898 to 1970, the Governor of the Pitcairn Islands was the person who was the Governor of Fiji. Fiji gained independence in 1970 and the position of Governor of Fiji was eliminated. Since that time, the Governor of the Pitcairn Islands has been the person who is the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to New Zealand.
