Electrical and computer engineering, sometimes abbreviated ECE, is an engineering discipline that combines the disciplines of electrical engineering and computer engineering (which does NOT include software engineering but focuses rather on the design of computing hardware). Many schools and colleges have specific academic departments covering this engineering discipline and offering undergraduate or graduate programs in this engineering discipline.

The practitioners of this engineering discipline are called either electrical engineers or computer engineers depending on the extent to which their work focuses on computing hardware.
