Category:D.A. Hendrie locomotives
Appearance
Locomotives designed by David Anderson Hendrie, Natal Government Railways (NGR) Locomotive Superintendent (1903-1910) and South African Railways (SAR) Chief Mechanical Engineer (1910-1922).
Hendrie came with a lot of experience from the Highland Railway in Scotland and had also been employed by Sharp, Stewart and Company of Glasgow, one of the constituent companies that later formed the North British Locomotive Company. He took all this experience with him to the chair of the first Chief Mechanical Engineer of the SAR in 1910 and went on to design many successful steam locomotives for use on all sections of the SAR.[1]
