A representative squad based on the Czechoslovakia men's national ice hockey team took part in the World Hockey Association's 1977–78 regular season, playing once against each of the club teams (8 fixtures) with the results contributing to the opponents' totals in the standings. The Soviet Union also sent an 'all-star' squad, which achieved better results than the Czechs. Both teams returned for the 1978–79 season (6 fixtures) in the last campaign before the WHA was merged into the National Hockey League.
