Any person who was a student of St Patrick's College, Maynooth (NUI) from 1910 to 1997 and was conferred with a National University of Ireland (NUI) degree as a result prior to the creation of the university is legally considered a graduate of Maynooth University.
From 1879 to 1909 St Patrick's College, Maynooth graduates were awarded degrees by the Royal University of Ireland which was the forerunner of the NUI. From 1895 to 1997 Theology degrees were awarded by the Pontifical University of Maynooth, since the Royal and National Universities were prohibited from awarding such degrees. Since 1997 a number of the Pontifical University's degrees are jointly awarded with the NUIM.
The Maynooth Alumni Association represents graduates of the St. Patrick's College, Maynooth and Maynooth University
