Captain Howdy & The Sunset Serenaders are a psychedelic cowpunk trio from Lawrence, Kansas, founded in 2022. They are most known for re-inventing traditional American folk music.
Their debut studio album Howdy Reigns[1] was released on August 2nd 2024, and features a mix of cowpunk, shoegaze, psychedelic rock, and desert rock.
The trio consists of: Keller Welton - Guitar, Vocals James Barnett - Bass, Vocals, Mixing/Mastering Jon Chappell - Drums, Vocals
The name Captain Howdy & The Sunset Serenaders comes from two places. Captain Howdy comes from the song entitled "Captain Howdy" by Pearl Earl, and The Sunset Serenaders comes from the song "He's Gone" by the Grateful Dead from the Veneta, Oregon show on August 27, 1972.
