Calvin Ronald Verdonk (born 26 April 1997) is a professional footballer who plays as a left-back or centre-back for Eredivisie club NEC. Born in the Netherlands, he represents the Indonesia national team.

Early and personal life

Calvin Ronald Verdonk[2] was born on 26 April 1997 in Dordrecht. He is of Indonesian descent from a father who came from Aceh.[3]

On 4 June 2024, Verdonk officially obtained Indonesian citizenship.[4][5]

Club career

Verdonk is a youth exponent from Feyenoord. He signed his first professional contract with the club on 24 April 2014 agreeing a three-year deal.[6] He made his Eredivisie debut at 8 March 2015 against Excelsior Rotterdam replacing Lucas Woudenberg after 73 minutes in a 3–0 home win.[7] On 11 November 2015, he extended the contract to mid-2020.[8]

On 24 May 2016, he was loaned for a season to PEC Zwolle.[9] On 2 August 2017, he was loaned for a season again, this time to NEC Nijmegen.[10]

On 11 September 2020, he joined Famalicão in Portugal on a four-year contract.[11] On 30 August 2021, he returned to NEC on a season-long loan.[12] On 6 July 2022, NEC made the transfer permanent by purchasing his rights.[13]

International career

Verdonk made his debut for the Indonesia national team on 11 June 2024 in a World Cup qualifier match against Philippines in a 2–0 win.[14]
