Alderman Bronek Masojada (born Bronislaw Edmund Masojada, 31 December 1961) is a British businessman and insurer who served as CEO of Hiscox (2000–2021).[1] Masojada served as an Aldermanic Sheriff of London for 2023/24.[2]

Background and education

Of Polish descent, the son of Milek Edmund Masojada and Shirley Mary née Johnston, he read Civil Engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, graduating BSc, before pursuing Management Studies as a postgraduate at Trinity College, Oxford (MPhil).[3]

Masojada completed national service as a Second Lieutenant in the South African Army (1983–84).

Career

Masojada worked for McKinsey & Company from 1989 to 1993. He then joined Hiscox in 1993, became Chief Executive in 2000 and stepped down in 2021. Masojada served as a Deputy Chairman of Lloyd's of London from 2001 to 2007 and was Chairman of the Lloyd's Tercentenary Research Foundation from 2008 to 2014.[4]

Masojada was appointed Chairman of SiriusPoint Ltd[5] (from June 2023), and a Director of Brown & Brown[6] (from January 2023), and of Pool Re (from June 2015). He also serves as Chairman of Lloyd's Tercentenary Foundation, Lloyd's Underwriting Agents Assn and East End Community Foundation, and as a member of the Council of Lloyd's. He is also a board member of Policy Placement Limited.[7]

City of London service

Masojada was elected Alderman for the Ward of Billingsgate in 2019,[8] and served as one of the two Sheriffs of London for 2023/24.[9] He has been recommended by the Court of Aldermen (subject to election) to be the 699th Lord Mayor of London in November 2027.[10]

He served as Master of the Worshipful Company of Insurers for 2013/14.[11]

Masojada serves on the Lord Mayor's Appeal Fundraising Board.[12]

Family

In 1986 Masojada married Jane née Lamont, a figurative and portrait artist. They have five children: Adam, Michaela, Lara, Dominik and Marek,[13] and live at Woldingham, Surrey.
