Prior to his career in numismatics, Alma was the host of the television series The Outdoor Experience.[1][2][3][4]

Early life and outdoor media career

[edit]

Alma developed an interest in outdoor activities at a young age. By the age of 16, he had established himself in outdoor media, hosting TV and radio shows and authoring books on outdoor activities.[1] In 2016, at age 14, Alma founded a media enterprise focused on outdoor content.[5]

Alma was the host of The Outdoor Experience, a television series focused on outdoor activities and lifestyle. In 2017, he was described as a "lover and pursuer of the outdoors" by the Cincinnati Enquirer.[5] By 2018, at age 17, he was writing a book in addition to his TV hosting duties.[6] In the same year, he interviewed musician Ted Nugent for his show.[7][8]

CoinHub Media

[edit]

In 2020, Alma founded CoinHub Media, a company focused on numismatic education and sales.[2] The company's growth coincided with increased interest in coin collecting during the COVID-19 pandemic.[9]

CoinHub Media produces educational resources on numismatics, including guidebooks and instructional short videos. Published works include The CoinHub: An Ultimate Guide to Coin Errors and The CoinHub: An Ultimate Guide to Selling U.S. Coins and Silver.[10][11][12] CoinHub Media operates an online publication called The CoinHub Journal, which focuses on coin collecting and numismatic studies. The journal reports a monthly readership of 50,000 and covers topics such as coin values, historical contexts, and market trends.[13]

They also facilitate the sale of rare coins and bullion, primarily through the live video shopping app Whatnot. As of early 2024, the company has amassed a social media following of over 1.7 million across various platforms and generated over $1.6 million in transactions.[2]

Media coverage

[edit]

Alma has been consulted by major media outlets for his expertise in numismatics, gained through his success with CoinHub Media. Fox Business sought Alma's insights on the value of error coin varieties. Alma explained to Fox, "Error coins are prized by collectors because they're rare and were never meant to be seen by the public. Coin errors are supposed to be inspected, seen and then destroyed by the mint."[14] Following this coverage, the New York Post dubbed Alma "the penny pundit."[15] His viral coin videos have been featured in publications such as CNBC, MSN, and iHeart Radio.[16][17][18] In a subsequent consultation with Fox Business about the value of the doubled died 1958 penny, Alma stated, "Coin collecting is a popular hobby, and many people are willing to pay top dollar for unique and rare pieces to add to their collections," adding, "The fewer doubled die pennies that exist, the higher their value becomes...Double die pennies are highly sought after by coin collectors because they are considered a rare and valuable error."[19]

Personal life

[edit]

As of 2024, K-Love reported that Alma is pursuing higher education at Pensacola Christian College (PCC) while managing CoinHub Media.[2] Alma identifies as a conservative and has expressed admiration for the work of Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA 5th District).[20]

Faith and Philosophy

[edit]

Alma has consistently emphasized his Christian faith through his media channels. In a farewell speech streamed live before his departure to PCC, he expressed: "Whether we drive a $150,000 car or a $1,000 car, the road and the distance is the same...I hope you realize that when you have friends, family, loved ones that is true happiness. Life isn't about coins, metals, and money...Don't spend your life teaching people how to be rich but educate them to serve God. For that is the only true happiness."[21]
