Billy Jackson is a British professional boxer.

Early life

[edit]

Billy Jackson was born in Maidstone. At the age of 2, Jackson was trained by his father in various Martial Arts, and by the age of 6, he joined classes in kickboxing and boxing. Jackson joined various clubs to gain experience from sparring as he continued to be coached by his father. Jackson went on to win area, English and British titles as a kickboxer sanctioned by the WKA[2] and also boxed as an amateur boxer, only losing 2 of his amateur bouts in a Youth National Final and one in a England select team v Cayman Islands. Jackson also boxed in less regulated prize fighting, unlicensed boxing, mainly for money at the early age of 14, having to box much older opponents. Jackson had 27 unlicensed boxing fights winning English and British tiles on various promotions like UKBC. Jackson has one of the quickest knock outs aged only 16 of a much older opponent on Lee Eaton’s EBA in under 16 seconds of the first round. In Jacksons 27 unlicensed fights he lost twice giving away age, experience and in some cases 20Kg in small used non commissioned gloves, the only time he lost he was only 17 fighting men in their 30’s [3] Jackson has been a advocate for young boxers to remain in the amateurs where there is more control on age, weight, head guards, medicals and glove size. Jackson won 24 out of 27 unlicensed fights. Losing two and drawing one.[4]

Amateur career

[edit]

Jackson lost two bouts as an amateur in a youth national final and a England select team v Cayman islands.[5] Jackson won gold at the Hvidorve Box Cup in Denmark representing England. [6]

Professional career

[edit]

Jackson made his professional debut on 17 November 2018,[7] winning a four round points decision over Dylan Draper at the Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, Jackson put Drapper down in the first round.[8]

In November 2018, Jackson signed a two fight deal contract with MTK.

On 14 December 2018, Jackson fought Lee Hallett On box nation live on television beating Hallett.

Jacksons next fight came on 8 May 2019 against MJ Hall at the York Hall beating Hall.

On 9 July 2022 Jackson won his 4th Professional fight at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre.A documentary team liquid Bullet followed Jackson and his Stable mates and trainer in the lead up to his come back.

In Jacksons 5th professional fight he fought another undefeated boxer Gideon Onyenani (Jonas) on 1 October 2022 at the York Hall over 8 rounds. Jackson is now 5-0, beating Jonus winning 7 of the 8 rounds on a Neilson Boxing promotion. Jackson was close to stopping Jonas in the 7th round. Jackson was co-main event.

Jackson 6th professional fight was 18 November at the York Hall Bethnal Green, Jackson fought undefeated boxer Jurell Patterson managed by Lee Eaten & trained by Will Jones. Jackson put Patterson down in the second and won the fight on points over 6 rounds.

24 February 2024, Jackson fought for the 7th time as a pro at the York Hall Bethnal Green on the TM14 promotions. Jackson rolled his ankle in the first round breaking his ankle, having to box without putting pressure on the ankle. Jackson came through to go 7-0 which now puts him forward for the Southern Area eliminator.

The promised Southern Area title didn’t come along and left Jackson looking for other options. [9]

In July 2024 Jackson was offered an English & Commonwealth title eliminator rather than the Southern Area title shot that he had earned in his previous fight.

28th September 2024 Jackson headlined the York Hall in his 8th fight on the Neilson Boxing show v the much more experienced Asinia Byfield for the English & Commonwealth eliminator. The fight was aired on Fightzone and talk sport. Jackson lost on a close points decision. The fight was given fight of the night. In an interview with punchout boxing Jackson said he had not had the best camp, going into the fight Jackson had a damaged hand.

"I want to be in wars, I enjoy it!" - Billy Jackson on his exciting losing effort against Asinia Byfield; details "I want to be in wars, I enjoy it!" - Billy Jackson on his exciting losing effort against Asinia Byfield; details problems in training that hindered him; looking to return after the New Year and considers Punchout Boxing's own recommendation of adopting American great John David Jackson's "Action" nickname!

Conflict in camp with his trainer & father over whether he should take the fight was evident, Jackson took the fight despite his fathers advice. Jackson’s trainer stepped away from training him, and for his first lost Jacksons trainer was not in his corner or trained him.

The British Boxing Board of control had the fight a draw going into the 9th round, however boxing news scored the fight 92-98 with Jackson only winning one round. [10]

Asinia Byfield is now in line to fight Sam Gilley who holds the Commonwealth title.
