Betland is an online bookmaker company offering betting on major sporting events, operating in Nigeria and Ghana.[1] [2]
History
[edit]Betland was incorporated as a limited liability company in Nigeria on March 21, 2014. One of the pioneers of online betting platforms in Nigeria, it is licensed by the Lagos State Lotteries Board (LSLB). In October 2014, Betland was also licensed in Ghana by the Ghana Gaming Commission.[3]
Operations and services
[edit]Betland launched in 2014, combining online and retail betting services. At its peak in 2015, it operated over 1,000 retail outlets and had over 50,000 registered online customers. Internal management challenges led to a temporary shutdown in 2015, but operations resumed on November 15, 2019. The company serves over 1 million retail players and 100,000 registered online players.[4][5]
Challenges
[edit]The Nigerian business environment poses challenges such as hyperinflation, inconsistent government policies, and inadequate infrastructure. The COVID-19 pandemic also impacted the betting industry, leading to a focus on online markets and virtual gaming.[6]
Leadership
[edit]Dotun Ajegbile is the Chairman and CEO, co-founding the company with Olamide Ajegbile.
