Benjamin Michael Kitt (born 18 January 1995)[1] is an English former cricketer.[2] Following a controversial video with football referee David Coote, Kitt was suspended "on full pay" from his job on 12 November 2024.[3] Before his suspension, he worked as principal recruitment consultant at Forsyth Barnes.[4]

Born in Plymouth, Kitt played for Cornwall and moved to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club in 2016. He failed to make a first-class appearance for Notts and ended up released in 2018.[5]

Cricket career

[edit]

At the age of 16, Kitt made his debut for Cornwall in their Minor Counties game with Cheshire in June 2011.[6]

He signed a two-year professional contract with Nottinghamshire in September 2018 having taken more than 100 wickets for the club's Second XI and Academy teams that summer.[7][8][9] Kitt suffered a stress fracture of his back in 2017 and was released when his contract expired at the end of the 2018 season without making a first team appearance.[7][8]

David Coote video

[edit]

In October 2020, Kitt featured in a private video with English football referee David Coote.[10] The video was leaked on 11 November 2024. In it, Coote calls Liverpool "shit" and then-Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp a "German cunt".[11][12] Kitt urged his fans not to "ruin [Coote's] career" after the incident.[12] The BBC has tried reaching out to Kitt, who, as of 12 November 2024, has not responded.[13] Coote's comments drew intense media speculation, however Kitts also notably said "We all hate scousers" - a slur directed at those from the city of Liverpool.[14]

Roheel Ahmad, co-founder of Forsyth Barnes, commented on the topic.[15]

Forsyth Barnes understands that the leaked video of David Coote includes one of its employees, Ben Kitt. This is something that we are taking very seriously and we have suspended Ben on full pay while we investigate further. Although we are still in the process of gathering all the facts, we do know for certain that the video was taken some years before Ben became an employee of Forsyth Barnes. In his time with the business, Ben has demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication to his career. He has matured considerably and grown into a responsible young man.
