Herrera's alligator lizard (Barisia herrerae) is a species of medium-sized lizard in the family Anguidae. The species is endemic to Mexico.[2]
Etymology
[edit]The specific name, herrerae, is in honor of Mexican biologist Alfonso Luis Herrera.[3]
Geographic range
[edit]B. herrerae is found in central Mexico, in the Mexican states of México[1][2] and Morelos.[1]
Habitat
[edit]The preferred natural habitat of B. herrerae is forest, at altitudes of 2,350–2,500 m (7,710–8,200 ft).[1]
Reproduction
[edit]The mode of reproduction of B. herrerae has been described as viviparous[1] and as ovoviviparous.[2] Litter size is five to seven newborns.[1]
